BOARD HIGHLIGHTS
RECOGNITIONS
Santa Fe Junior High recognized Coach Kristin Pfaff. During a recent P.E. class, 8th grader Tyler Martin was choking on a water bottle lid. Coach Pfaff performed the Heimlich Maneuver and dislodged the lid.
Santa Fe High School recognized the Clarinet Quartet who received a rating of Superior and have advanced to the Texas State Solo and Ensemble contest to be held at the University of Texas in Austin on May 30th.
Santa Fe High School also recognized the Percussion Performers who competed in the TCGC (Texas Color Guard Circuit) State Championship. They competed in the PSAA Division and received the Bronze Medal award under the Direction of Matthew Raines and Max Phillips.
Santa Fe High School recognized the Concert and Symphonic Bands. The Concert Band attended the Region 17 UIL Concert/Sightreading Evaluation at Clear Lake H.S. and received a Superior rating on the performance and a Superior rating on the Sightreading Evaluation. On April 27th, the Symphonic Band competed at the Region 17 UIL/Sightreading Evaluation and received a rating of Superior, straight ones from each judge. The Santa Fe Band program earned its status as Varsity beginning the 2022-2023 school year.
Santa Fe High School recognized their Pole Vaulters who advanced to the State Meet. Seth Jacobs was the Region III Champion and Nathan Williams was the Region III runner up. At the State Track Meet in Austin on May 13th, Seth Jacobs placed 5th in State with a pole vault of 15'. Nathan Williams finished 8th in State with a pole vault of 14'6". They were coached by Coach Miller.
Santa Fe High School also recognized Powerlifters who advanced to State. Karissa Betancourt placed 3rd in State in the 148lb Class and Breckyn Plite placed 5th at State in the 114lb Class. Coach Staehlin and Coach Causey coached these two athletes.
The District recognized FFA students. SFISD had a total of 107 students participate in the Galveston County Fair & Rodeo with a total of 178 entries. Our State qualifying Livestock Judging Team placed 14th at the State Livestock Judging Contest out of 96 teams. FFA Sponsors are Bubba Dunn, Brandon Noto and Dollie Dow.
The District also recognized our Special Olympic Athletes. On Saturday, April 9th, our Special Olympics Athletes competed in the Annual Track Meet in Texas City. They did an amazing job competing this year.
The District also recognized our Strive students who were recognized for their volunteer services at the Bayou Animal Shelter by the Dickinson City Council. Dickinson mayor presented our students with a certificate of appreciation and the mayor read a proclamation honoring their volunteer services at the shelter.
The District recognized 5th grader Landon Stookey from Barnett as the elementary spotlight student of the month and 7th grader Erika Miller from Santa Fe Jr. High as the secondary spotlight student of the month. Lindsey Garcia from Wollam Elementary was recognized as the spotlight staff member of the month. Kim Heileman from Barnett Elementary is one of our substitute spotlights of the month. Michelle Chaney from Kubacak is our other substitute spotlight of the month.
Community member Bobby Wylie recognized three of our 7th grade athletes for good sportsmanship. The three young men helped another athlete from a competing school with his form when throwing the discus. Mr. Wylie was so impressed with these young men, that he wanted everyone to know about it.
State Board of Education Committee member Dr. Matt Robinson recognized Royal Cumby for being selected for the Student Heroes Award.

Mr. Atkins updated the Board on ongoing projects throughout the District.
Sara Ryan, Kathy Oliver, and Peggy Gordon updated the Board on all grant funds received by the District each year. Alex Sanchez updated the Board on the total amounts received.
Mr. Sanchez updated the Board on the 3rd Quarter Investment report.
Mrs. Bowers provided an annual report on YUM Nutrition Services.
